A few years ago I bought two ice cream banana trees from Fast Growing Trees. They arrived in great shape and went into the ground immediately. I kept them watered and fertilized and the began to grow new leaves within the first week.
From two stalks, 4 more popped up adjacent to the originals, giving me 6 plants! It was amazing to watch. Last year, one stalk decided to actually produce a bunch of bananas! It started promisingly, with two bunches of teeny weeny bananas visible as the reddish brown covers fell to the ground. But then something odd happened: the remaining bunches withered and fell off of the stalk! I have no idea what happened to cause that, as I kept it watered and fertilized.
Here we are six months after that and I have another banana stalk forming. Same deal though: 2 bunches of little bananas and the rest just wither and fall to the ground.
I’ll keep folks posted on the progress of these trees. I really hope to get a decent harvest soon!
